The Iowa Children's Museum is seeking models to participate in the only American Girl Fashion Show in the state of Iowa!
Do you know an American Girl that would be interested in modeling in The Iowa Children's Museum's American Girl Fashion Show fundraiser on Friday, April 20th at 7 pm or Saturday, April 21st at 10 am or 2 pm? Over 100 models will be needed for our three shows.
Many moms of past models have told us what a great experience it is for their daughters to have the opportunity to be ‘on stage’ and a part of the show to benefit the children’s museum. This year we are delighted to host the American Girl Fashion Show at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts…which will add to the excitement and experience for our models!
Open Model Casting Calls will be held the following dates at
The Iowa Children’s Museum Playworks Theater.
o Tuesday March 6th, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
o Wednesday March 7th, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
o Thursday March 8th, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

American Girl Fashion Show Models’ Frequently Asked Questions
What size models do you need?
« American Girl provides outfits in size 6x and 10. (size chart available at http://store.americangirl.com/static/popups/sizeChart.html)
« Size 6x outfits are Bitty Baby fashions, size 10 are American Girl historical and contemporary fashions.
« If your daughter is between size 6x and 10, we can try to fit her in a size 10 outfit that is a skirt or nightgown.
What is the time commitment for models?
« Models and their parent/guardian must attend ONE of the one hour informational meetings. Informational meetings are held at the ICM on March 6th at 4:00 pm, March 7th at 4:00pm and March 8th at 6:30pm.
« Models and a parent/guardian must attend the dress rehearsal/outfit try-on for their show time. Rehearsal will be held at Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
- Fri. April 20th 7 pm show rehearses Wed., April 11th 5:00-6:00 pm
- Sat. April 21st 10 am show rehearses Wed., April 11th 5:45-6:45 pm
- Sat. April 21st 2 pm show rehearses Wed., April 11th 6:30-7:30 pm
« Models should arrive at Coralville Center for the Performing Arts one hour before their show time. The show runs approximately two hours, including intermission. ICM Staff and Volunteers will entertain the models backstage during the show.
How do I sign my daughter up to model?
« Complete the model application. Be sure to provide your daughter’s photo and her height to help with outfit assignment.
« Bring completed application and a photo to one of the informational meetings March 6th, 7th or 8th.
« Model opportunities will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
How do you assign outfits?
« Models are selected based on size and resemblance to dolls.
« American Girl encourages Fashion Show coordinators to try their best to cast girls who look like historical characters. We do our best to honor AG policy.
« Size 6x models will wear Bitty Baby/Bitty Twin outfits.
« Size 10 models will wear either a historical outfit or a contemporary outfit.
Can my daughter be in a show with a friend?
« We would be happy to assign your daughter to a show with her friend.
« Since model opportunities are filled on a first come, first serve basis, your daughter and her friends should submit their applications as soon as possible, making note that the girls would like to model together (be sure to specify preferred show time).
What happens at dress rehearsal?
« It is mandatory for all models to attend their show’s dress rehearsal.
« Girls will find out the outfit they are wearing and have time to try it on. If there is a fit issue, ICM Staff/Volunteers will use dress rehearsal time to reassign outfits or make slight adjustments to fit.
« When models try their outfit, they will also be provided the section of the script that is read when they walk on stage. It is helpful for parents to read the script segment to their daughter so they can practice their part of the show.
« Since Coralville Center for the Performing Arts is a new location for this year’s AG Fashion Show, ICM Staff will run through stage directions and help the models feel comfortable on stage.
« ICM Volunteers will help models with suggestions of any accessories they should wear to complete their outfit. Models should not need to buy any special new shoes or accessories. ICM will have items models can borrow for the day of the show.
What happens the day of the show?
« Girls should be dropped off one hour prior to show time. Model entrance will be in the lower level of the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts parking garage. ICM Volunteers will check your daughter in at this lower level backstage entrance.
« Girls will have special dressing rooms to put on their outfits. Volunteers from La James Academy will be available to help with hair.
« During the show, models must remain backstage. The fashion show will broadcast live on a screen backstage. Volunteers will also be on hand to play games and do crafts with models. Light refreshments (pretzels and water) will also be provided.
« Girls cannot leave backstage in their outfits. After the show, models will have time to change in the dressing rooms. For models’ safety, you will be required to sign your daughter out with ICM Staff.
Who needs to buy tickets?
« Models are not required to purchase a ticket for the show in which they are modeling, but all parents, siblings, or relatives coming to watch models will be required to purchase a ticket to the show.
« Tickets are $25 and will be sold through the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. They will be available to purchase starting February 15th online at Coralville Center for the Performing Arts box office and online
