The Iowa Children’s Museum is delighted to offer Workshops for Cub Scout Troops!
Earn your badges in our unique hands-on, minds-on learning environment where every child is inspired to imagine, create, discover, and explore through the power of play! We have created exceptional workshops where Cub Scouts and Webelos will complete fun and educational activities designed to meet their full badge requirements! 


Cub Scout workshops are now customized to fit your needs and schedule!


You decide:

     When you want to schedule a Cub Scout workshop any day of the week

     Which badge your Pack wants to earn

When are Cub Scout workshops available?
Daily from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm

You select the date and time that work best for your group!

How many students do I need to reserve a workshop?

Minimum = 8  Maximum = 100


How long does the workshop last?

Each workshop lasts two hours


What is the cost?
$10.00 per student, adult chaperones are free
*All day admission to the museum is included in the cost of the workshop for each child participant and their chaperones.


How many chaperones are needed?
One adult per five students is required.

How do I make reservations?

Cub Scout Workshop Choices:

Beginning of the Year
• Cubs create a stamped leather “patch” for holding their Tiger
   Track beads.
• Make your own neckerchief .

Where I Live
• Make a map of your town or neighborhood.
•Examin the “wants” and “needs” of a community.
• Learn how to read a map.
• Put your new skills to use by creating a miniature city using the
     ICM’s Cityworks props.

Health And Safety
• Practice 911 protocol with mock emergency phone calls.
• Discuss and role play “fire” and “lost” scenarios.
• Explore food pyramid.
• Make and taste some simple, healthy snack recipes.
• Learn how to keep score with a few holes of mini golf.

How I Tell It
• Play the “Circle Story” game.
• Make a timeline showing how communication changed over time.
• Make a video of a story created by your troop to share online.

Let’s Go Outdoors
• Learn the three main factors of weather.
• Create a weather watch journal.
• Create a weather report to share online.
• Make clay nature prints


Webelos Badge Programs:

Scientist  
· Learn how Bernoulli’s Principle works and experiment with air pressure
· Experiment with Pascal’s Law and show the effects of water pressure
· Learn Newton’s Laws of Motion and play with inertia
· Build and launch a simple paper rocket
· Learn about your center of gravity and perform three balancing tricks
· Fool your eyes with optical illusions

Engineer
· Examine real blueprints and draw a floor plan of your home
· Learn about electricity and construct a simple circuit
· Construct simple bridges and test their strength
· Make a simple crane with a block and tackle
· Build a small catapult and discover how it works
