June 11 – 15 : DIY Camp
Do It Yourself is all the craze!! Campers will learn all about the process of making things from start to finish with their own hands. Kids will create a top secret treasure keeper from a book, build their own paper lantern, weave baskets, learn to stitch, and lots more, all while discovering how competent and talented they really are!
June 18 – 22 : Science Sleuths
Mix, make, create, problem solve, and engineer in this scientifically spectacular camp! Budding scientists will love experimenting as they make cotton ball catapults, Cartesian divers, many different types of slime, design tall structures, and more. This camp is all about science in action!
June 25 – 29 : Preschool Power! (2 sessions available: Session 1: 9am-12pm & Session 2: 1pm-4pm) Session 1 is Full
Unleash your preschooler’s brain power through daily learning adventures! Each half day camp will include sensory, art, science, and creative movement activities. We’ll explore a daily topic, including bugs, colors, and flying things. Watch your child's learning power grow through play!
June 25 – 29 : Art Adventure
Kids get creative working with clay, acrylic paint, watercolors, chalk, and oil pastels as they release their inner artist! Museum educators believe that all children are artists and will help your child find the creative process that works best for them to express themselves. Campers will sculpt, create portraits, draw from observation, learn printmaking, and more. Art Adventures culminates in an art show for museum guests!
July 2-3 : Animal Antics, Part 1
July 5-6 : Animal Antics, Part 2
Animal lovers unite in this frolicking fun camp! Campers get the opportunity to welcome some special animal guests that include reptiles, birds, and mammals as they learn what animals need to thrive. Students will make an animal journal, create a painting of an animal guest, make a clay sculpture of a rare animal breed, and more. Each section will feature different animals.
July 9 – 13 : Showstoppers
Help develop your child’s self-esteem through the performing arts! We’ll learn all about acting, miming, drama exercises, dance, and music, and practice our performing skills. Culminating in a special performance on the last day of camp, our Showstoppers will be sure to wow us with their skills!
July 16 – 20 : Take Flight Adventure
If your child is fascinated with flight, this day camp experience is just the ticket to summertime fun! Special missions in the flight simulators, homemade rockets, and engineering safe landing crafts are great ways for kids to learn about the forces of flight. Campers will also design and create their own small-scale flying vehicles! Supported by NASA flight activities, this day camp is sure to take off!
July 23 – 27 : 3D Art Camp
Any child can become a sculpting artist with the museum’s talented art educators. Campers will use their hands and imaginations to create puppets, foam landscapes, clay creatures, a stop motion animated film, and more. Sculpting camp culminates with an art show open to museum guests!
July 30 - August 3 : Master of Disaster Camp
Tornadoes, earthquakes, and floods, oh my! Learn all about the causes and effects of powerful natural disasters. What ingredients make a tornado? How do we protect ourselves from floods? What can we do to stay safe when a disaster is headed our way? We'll explore the science behind tornadoes, earthquakes, lightning strikes, volcanic eruptions, floods, and other natural disasters as we become masters of disaster-ology.
August 6 – 10 : Cover to Cover: Storybook Camp
Campers leap into literacy as they explore multiple storytelling techniques! Learn what makes a good tale through story starters, creating comic strips, writing a short story, testing rhymes with poetry, and trying out performance skills with verbal storytelling. Kids will become experts with words as they weave stories for all to enjoy!

Camp Information
Who Can Attend? Discovery Day Camps are for children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
What's the Schedule? Full Day Option: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, bring your own brown bag lunch Half Day Option: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for $5/hour per child (8am to 5:30pm)
What is Extended Care? Extended care consists of supervised play experiences for the children scheduled to stay before or after regular camp hours. Our staff to child ratio will be the same as in camp: 1 adult for every 5 children. In order to ensure extended care for your child, pre-registration is required two weeks prior to the start of camp. Typically, we cannot accept same-day registration for extended care.
What Do Full-Day Campers Do for Lunch? Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch each day. The Museum will provide an afternoon snack.
Class Size Maximum of 30 students.
What is the ratio of adults to children? Our ratio of adults to children is one adult per five children.
When does camp registration close? Registration is closed when camp capacity is reached or 3 days prior to the start of camp. We will maintain waiting lists for all camps at capacity.

Cost Full Day Camp = $210 per week Half Day Camp = $105 per week - Fee includes supplies and snack.
Available Discounts Members of The Iowa Children's Museum receive a 10% discount on camp fees.
Payment 100% of the Discovery Day Camp fee is required upon registration. Reservations will not be held without full payment.
Camp Confirmation You will receive a confirmation email from The Iowa Children's Museum within one week of your registration.
Refund Policy If you cancel your registration at least one week prior to the start of camp, we will refund your tuition less a $5 registration fee per camp day. If you cancel your registration with less than one-week notice, no refund or credit will be given unless it is a medical emergency.
Cancellation Policy The Iowa Children’s Museum reserves the right to cancel or reschedule classes if minimum enrollment (5 children) is not met. In this instance The Iowa Children’s Museum will notify registrants of cancellation at least one week prior to the start of camp and issue a full refund.
