Art Adventures!Learning to Draw Animals

Art Adventure! at The Iowa Children's Museum is a unique, interactive art education program. Trained artists from the ICM Staff and the Iowa community provide interactive theatrical, dance, musical and visual arts experiences that enrich the lives of museum visitors and help them learn the skills needed to be creative problem solvers.

Advanced Art Adventures
Drop Off Program
Age 7 years and older
Thursdays after Art Adventure: 5:00 to 6:30 PM
$8 per child

July 15 : Advanced Art Adventure: Screenprinting
Students will make their own stamps and learn about gyotaku prints.

July 22 : Advanced Art Adventure: Shadow Illustrations
Students will create dynamic images in black and white using paper and markers.


July 29 : Advanced Art Adventure: Green Bag
Students will use fabric scraps to create a reusable tote bag.


August 5 : Advanced Art Adventure: Clay Mosaics! (Part 1)
Students will learn to use clay to create a faux mosaic.


August 12 : Advanced Art Adventure: Clay Mosaics! (Part 2)
Students will paint clay tiles from previous week.


August 19 : Advanced Art Adventure: Real Big Fish
Students will use a wax resist technique to create a larger than life tropical fish.


August 26 : Advanced Art Adventure: Mechanical Boxes
Students will create a diorama and make it come to life by creating a simple mechanical box.


September 2 : Advanced Art Adventure: Calder Mobile
Students will create a moving work of art inspired by Alexander Calder.


September 9 : Advanced Art Adventure: Drawing from Observation: Still Life
Students will learn to draw what they see, not what they think they see; drawings will be finished with paint.


September 30 : Advanced Art Adventure: Magic Window
Students will start with a black and white drawing and then pull the tab to reveal a full color work of art.


October 7 : Advanced Art Adventure: Puppets
Students will use fabric, wire, feathers, sculpey, and more to create their own puppet.


October 14 : Advanced Art Adventure: Paper Sculpting
Students will learn basic techniques to make popup books and paper sculptures.
