Goop to Go - Recipes for Home-Made Slime

You will need -

  • White glue
  • Borax powder
  • Water
  • Food coloring

In one small bowl, combine 6 teaspoons of glue and 6 teaspoons of water. You can add food coloring now, if you want to make colorful slime!

In a second bowl, pour 1/4 cup water and 1/4 teaspoon of borax and stir. Slowly add the glue mixture from the first bowl, stirring as you do so. Once your slime has formed, pick it up and knead it in your hands. (There will be some liquid left in the bowl.) The more you play with the slime, the firmer it becomes!

Use your senses to examine the slime...What does it feel like? Look like? Does it bounce or stretch?

More Goop!

You will need -

  • Cornstarch
  • Water

In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and stir!

Try to remove this slime from the bowl. How is this slime different than the borax slime? Is it a solid, liquid or something in between? Use four of your senses to figure it out! (Remember, you don't want to taste your slime!!)

Colorful Flowers!

You will need -

  • Light colored flowers (daffodils, carnations, daisies, etc.)
  • Food coloring
  • Water
  • Cup or jar

Fill the cup or jar with water and add several drops of food coloring. Cut flower stems at an angle for better water absorption and place the flowers in the jar. Talk to your child about how water continually rises from the roots of a plant to the leaves, keeping it nourished and growing.

Place the jar in a windowsill and watch what happens! It takes a few hours for the flower heads to change color, but it's still worth the wait!
